July 21, 2013–Esther is 98 (part 3)

She looked really nice when I picked her up for church this morning.  I was surprised and pleased about the many acknowledgements made of her birthday.  Not only was she mentioned three times in the bulletin, once in the announcements, and again in the prayers, but two of her favorite hymns were sung, just for her.  She was delighted.

Lots of folks came up to speak with her during the coffee hour (I had ordered the cake).

After church, we went to Burger King (“that expensive place,” she said with a grin) for lunch.  I asked if they did anything special for birthdays.  The gal behind the register said no, but the manager overheard.  When I told her Mother is 98, she said, “Chocolate or strawberry?”

As we were finishing our sandwiches, the manager and five workers came over to our table, presented her with a strawberry sundae, and sang happy birthday to her!  I thanked them profusely–how wonderfully she has been honored this weekend!
