January 4, 2008–double pneumonia

Brought her home today after nine days in the hospital with double pneumonia.  They tried several different antibiotics before finding the right one.  Her appetite remained decent and she complained about not being able to sleep at night (who can in a hospital?) so although I was very concerned, I wasn’t worried about her not pulling through.  One of the x-rays found a small clot in a lower lobe of her lung, so as a precaution she is going to start coumadin to see if it will dissolve.  There is no way of telling how long it has been there.  If it is new, the coumadin should take care of it.  If it’s been there for a while (which is entirely possible), they’ll re-evaluate in six months.
